Mission & History

The mission of The Barn Stage Company is to preserve, strengthen and advance Musical Theater as a vital social and cultural platform by creating theatrical experiences of the highest professional standards. As both a laboratory for theatrical exploration and a producer of plays that expand the boundaries of theatrical form, The Barn Stage Company supports projects that are aesthetically, thematically and methodologically diverse. With our youthful spirit and eclectic, artist-driven approach, we provide an environment for the growth and education of theatre professionals, audiences and the Temecula Valley community at large.

In May 2012, Writer & Producer Jordan Beck and Director J. Scott Lapp teamed up to present Cabaret at The Merc, a popular concert series taking place in Old Town Temecula on the last Sunday of each month. Over the years they have brought the best of Broadway to Temecula, including evenings with Broadway’s Eden Espinosa, Shoshana Bean, and Grammy award-winning and Tony-nominated composer Stephen Schwartz. With shows also celebrating a wide array of styles ranging between Billy Joel, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Queen, Motown, and The Rat Pack, Cabaret at The Merc quickly became “the best kept secret in Temecula”!

But word got out when the duo produced an inaugural Summer Series of fully staged musicals in 2014. With every show selling out, the team behind Cabaret at The Merc began looking for a space to launch their professional theater company. In the summer of 2015, The Barn Stage Company was launched and began performances at The Truax Building, just blocks away from The Mercantile Building. The team has now partnered with the City of Temecula to present a full season of shows each year at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater. In addition to these full scale productions, The Barn Stage Company continues to produce its popular Cabaret at The Merc series as well as it’s Broadway in Concert series in association with the Temecula Valley Symphony. Past productions include Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel in Concert, featuring a 32 piece orchestra, Peter & The Starcatcher, and a critically acclaimed concert production of CHESS.
The Barn Stage Company is quickly becoming the go-to-spot to see the hottest theatrical talent in Southern California! Thank you for visiting the website. Take a look around, get tickets for one of the upcoming shows and see what all the fuss is about!

“J. Scott Lapp and Jordan Beck are the fresh faces and voices of the Next Broadway-Generation. We are honored to have such award-winning and acclaimed producers partnering with Temecula Presents to bring East Coast Stars right to our own backyard. We dream big around here and our patrons are the lucky beneficiaries of all the first-rate entertainment and talent that comes through Temecula’s stage stop.” – Bea Barnett
